Every town in Maremma Laziale
(and in Italy when it comes to it) celebrates
its patron saint once a year (or even more
times, depending on the number of parishes
and churches). You'll find that the locals
decorate their balconies and gardens with
coloured banners and banting, often splitting
the town into factions made obvious by the
colours or motifs.
This is commonly the occasion for various
races (such as the Palio Delle Contrade
in Allumiere), music in the square and other
events (e.g. the Feast day of St. Bernardino
in Piansano when the local flag-throwers
provide a colourful exhibition of the skills:
they've been Italian champions for the last
four years!).
