The old centre dates back to the 16th-7th Century,
with small squares, twisting narrow alley ways
and steps. Many of the old buildings have deep
cellars (even on 6 levels) dug out of the tufo
rock (the extracted blocks then used to build
the upper stories).
The former town hall - Palazzo Comunale - built
in the renaissance style has an interesting "loggetta"
with three arches supported by four old columns
and is currently the offices of the local monthly
mag "La Loggetta" (with some articles
in English - www.laloggetta.it).
Other sights include the Brancaleone fountain
and the birthplace of Lucia Burlini in Via Umberto
I: the town's most famous citizen, a weaver who
dedicated her life to helping the poor, the sick
and the homeless.
