The items are arranged so
that you pass through the various stages
of man's presence in the area, especially
during the Prehistoric period, followed
by the Etruscans and Romans, the Longobards,
the Middle Ages and the Renaissance, right
up to the present day. Of note, the Gamelio
d'Amore (a ceramic plate commissioned to
celebrate the wedding between Pier Luigi
Farnese and Gerolama Orsini of Pitigliano
(1488).
Panels, models, re-constructions and videos
help make this an enjoyable experience.
Visits start in the centre of the courtyard
called the Cortile d'Amore (the courtyard
of love) of Rocca Farnese, the castle (now
a civic centre) where members of this important
family lived from the late 1400s to 1649.
The Rocca also contains a typical Italian
garden from the 1400s and a painting dated
1750 depicting the Stairway to Heaven.

The museum contains all those
objects and instruments used to farm the
land and connected activities over the centuries.
Agricultural tools, those used by blacksmiths,
carpenters, tanners and household objects.
Upstairs you can get an idea of the religious
festivals, local fairs, games, stories,
proverbs, songs and other aspects of everyday
life. These are "narrated" by
the people themselves, through videos, recordings
and photos. Plus there are old trunks and
boxes, typical of an attic taking you back
to the end of the 1800s. Outside, the vineyard,
the orchard, the Mediterranean scrub, the
ancient trees (oak, olive, chestnut), the
typical kitchen garden before and after
the Christopher Columbus discovered America,
the herbs and medicinal plants and the huge
farm machinery of the early 1900s.
