Between the two volcanic lakes of Bolsena and Mezzano, this ancient forest has a unique atmosphere thanks to the twisted trunks and moss-covered stones. Covering more than 2,000 hectares, it's amazingly peaceful and in the past was used as a refuge for many a brigand. In fact it's now part of the network of trails making up the Sentiero dei Briganti, with resting fountains and picnic areas.
Ideal on horse, on foot, by bike or (in parts) even by car.
