Summer here's and loads of events are planned for this month, before it gets too damned hot to move and the only way to survive is to dip into the sea, lake or pool (or stay indoors during the day)!

Jockeys race donkeys around the main square in the fantastic and somewhat eerie quarter of Civita di Bagnoreggia, known as the "Città che Muore" (town that's dying). You've two chances to see this: the first Sunday in June and the second Sunday in September Races start in the afternoon, after a brief procession around this old quarter.

Canino
A religious procession (Thursday after the first Sunday after Pentecost) from the centre of Canino to the Cross of Castro, near Ischia di Castro, a distance of several kilometres and passing through the countryside and by the ruins of the ancient town of Castro. Starts early, early in the morning to avoid that hot summer sun.

The streets of the city are covered with a carpet of petals arranged to form beautiful pictures.

Vetralla in fiore

18 - 19 - 20 June. The entire town is embellished with flowers, as a local jury judges the best arrangement. The local cellars are opened for the occasion, serving local food and wine. In the centre of town there's also an art and crafts fair and various events and entertainment.

24 June. A musical event that attracts many world famous singers.

Festa della Madonna della Folgore

Last Sunday in June. The street leading up to the charming Church of Madonna della Folgore, in the middle of the woods known as the "Bosco delle Valli", is decorated with religious pictures made from petals. Local food & wine, folk events and even a fun donkey race ("Palio dei Somari").
