The hot, still nights of July when it's hard to sleep are brightened by many a festival, such as that of "Piccolo Borgo in festa" in Marta or the the Horse Fair in Tolfa (perfect for picking up a leather souvenir).

Literally "Celebrations of the Small Quarter", this event was introduced a few years ago to bring life back to the narrow Medieval streets of the old town centre, thanks to artists and craftsmen from all over Italy. By day, the alleys are full of flowers and youngsters wearing their great-grandparents' clothes, handing out leaflets and goodies. At night, oil torches and popular music, plus the typical "cannaiola" wine.
