Origin of the name
Possibly from the town in Umbria - Allerona - whence several families came in the 16th Century to repopulate the area. Castro comes from the Roman fortress/Mediaeval feudal town of the same name nearby.

Worth tasting in the area
Arlena's main crop, even in Etruscan/Roman times, has always been its olives, used to produce the Extra-virgin Olive Oil of Canino (DOP). Today the local farmers also produce an excellent green asparagus.
