Canino was originally an Etruscan settlement,
later developed under the Romans and frequented
by the gens Canina, an important noble family

The area is famous for its tangy oil (Canino
extra-virgin olive oil DOP) that's excellent
on bruschetta and available from the various oil
mills south of town. The local restaurants also
offer green
asparagus, wild boar and a choice of pecorino
(sheep's cheese).
